Prior to our negotiations, the Union released surveys to get your input. One of the important items identified was the RRSP’s. The Union proposed changes to the Company during bargaining, and the company responded that there was only an 18% enrolment rate for the flight attendant group. While we may see it as high importance, sadly, the numbers do not reflect this.

Enrolment for the Manulife RRSP program happens on January 1st of every year. The deadline for submitting the package is on December 27th, 2016. We encourage everyone to register. Even if you are not yet registered, we recommend you submit the documents in the event you will become eligible this year, or should there be any changes to the program.

For anyone who is on the fence, allow me to shed some light on the program. Currently, if you contribute 1% of your income, the Company has a 1% match. So, if you are making $30 per hour, based on working 80hrs per month, you would see a deduction of approximately $12 per paycheque, adding up to over $300 for the year. While the return on RRSP’s is not usually exceptionally high, the company is matching this, meaning they are depositing this money into your RRSP account at the same time you do. Should the new agreement be ratified, there is potential for a 2% match. THIS IS FREE MONEY! The Company is giving this to us, and everyone should be taking advantage of it. There is no logical reason why all eligible members shouldn’t be capitalizing on this benefit.

To register, all forms can be found on www.swgops.com. Click on the HR/IT tab on the top toolbar, then again on the HR Documents on the left hand side. Click on the +HR then below you will see a list, and click on the +Manulife RRSP tab.

The enrolment guide is your best reference, however you do not need to print the entire document. Forms that need to be submitted from this can be found on pages 21-31, dependent on your needs.

Everyone must complete:

• An Application form for the Deferred Profit Sharing Plan

• An Application form for the Registered Retirement Savings Plan

• A Payroll Deduction Authorization and Waiver of Participation form

• A Transfer Authorization for Registered Investments form (optional)

Completed forms can be submitted to benefits@sunwing.ca or faxed to 416-352-1805. Please ensure you submit these forms well in advance of December 27th, so any errors to your application can be addressed prior to the deadline.
